Preparing for a Major Event - TD Five Boro Bike Tour 2013

(May 4, 2013) NYC-ARECS installed a temporary tactical repeater today atop US Coast Guard Sector New York's headquarters. It is there at the USCG Emergency Operations Center at Ft. Wadsworth in Staten Island where the TD Five Boro Bike Tour will be coordinated. With the threat of terrorism, as displayed in April of 2013 in Boston, communication redundancy is highly valued, and as with prior years, NYC-ARECS has made itself available to assist with this major city-wide event. NYC-ARECS will be manning a desk in the EOC, coordinating their radio operators who will be deployed across the five boros of New York to assist Bike Tour leaders. Others in the EOC will be the NYPD, FDNY, EMS and the US Park Police, who will come together to ensure the day is safe for all participants and spectators.

Making it work!

A Diamond X50 dual band antenna was placed on a balcony overlooking
the facility.The repeater was installed inside the facility.

Historic Ft. Wadsworth, home to the US Army Reserves; the US Coast Guard and a huge flock
of Canadian Geese. This lawn--and the entire facility for that matter--will see tens of thousands of
participants on bicycles come through in the next 24 hours...
